On Friday 4 October 2024 an officer from the Neighbourhood Crime Team in the city centre who was out on patrol spotted a male known for drug supply near to Medlock Street, Manchester city centre.
After an initial negative search of the suspect and his vehicle, the officer obtained information that strikingly indicated that the man was in possession of drugs and was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.
Whilst in custody, 11 snap bags of cocaine plus 16 bags of suspected ketamine were recovered. A house search was also authorised, with the address yielding more Class A and Class B drugs.
Cannabis, cocaine plus suspected MDMA and ketamine were recovered, with a street value thought to be worth in the region of £20,000. £2,500 in cash was also seized by officers.
Sergeant Adam Culpan from our city centre Neighbourhood Crime Team said: “This was a proactive stop of an individual that we had a lot of background information on. We received some intelligence once we had stopped him that he was in possession of a number of drugs, which we located while he was in police custody.
“The supply of drugs is destructive to our communities, and we are determined to bring anyone involved to justice.
“I would encourage members of the public to continue to be our ‘eyes and ears’ and report anything they suspect is affecting their area in full confidence by ringing 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Always dial 999 in an emergency.”
Tackling the supply of drugs and subsequent drug-related crime is incredibly important to us, and today (Wednesday 9 October 2024) we announced the city-region's first published multi-agency drugs strategy to help us do that.
This is just one example of the proactive work our officers and staff do every day as we look to remove drugs from the streets, protect vulnerable people and make a positive impact on our communities.
