Officers investigating an attack on a man in Manchester on Monday night (October 7) are appealing for information as they continue their enquiries.
At around 5.45pm, officers responded to reports of a firearms discharge on Hampden Crescent, Manchester. It is believed that a group of males on bikes attacked a man with machetes before discharging a firearm and fleeing the scene. The victim, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life changing injuries.
Following the incident, two males, aged 15 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They have since been released without charge. Last night, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.
Investigators are now appealing for the public’s help as they continue their work into establishing the full circumstances of the incident.
This includes anyone from the area who may have seen or heard something suspicious, or has any relevant CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage.
A major incident portal has also been created, in which information can be submitted. It can be accessed here: https://mipp.police.uk/operation/06GMP24S73-PO1
Detective Inspector Louise Edwards, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “The investigation is moving at a fast pace and we have been working tirelessly around the clock to identify those responsible. We are determined to deliver justice for the victim who sustained very serious life-changing injuries and is lucky to be alive. Firearms have no place on the streets of Manchester and we take incidents like this incredibly seriously.
"I urge anyone who has any information to please get in touch with us. Your information could be vital to ensuring justice is served and taking those responsible for such violent acts off our streets.
“You can do this by visiting our major incident portal as linked, by calling 101, or by visiting our Live Chat service at gmp.police.uk, quoting log number 2621 of 07/10/24.”
You can also report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111, or by visiting their site at crimestoppers-uk.org.
