We have arrested a second man as part of our investigation into reports of an 87-year-old man who was forced into a car, attacked, and thrown out on a dark road in West Yorkshire.
The man, aged 24, was arrested this morning (22/09/2024) at an address in Royton on suspicion of kidnap. He remains in custody for questioning. This arrest follows an arrest we made on Thursday (19/09/2024); the man, aged 39, was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and has since been released on police bail pending further investigations.
These arrests are in relation to an incident that occurred at approximately 9pm on Sunday (15/09/2024) in the Lee Street area of Oldham. The 87-year-old victim was reportedly walking home when he was dragged into a black car and blindfolded, while demands were made for his money and personal items. He was attacked and eventually pushed out of the car in the Rishworth area of West Yorkshire. The man eventually found aid by knocking on a door at around 10.40pm.
Officers are appealing to the public for information to support their investigations into this shocking incident. Information can be submitted through the major incident portal, linked here: Public Portal (mipp.police.uk)
