A man has been arrested in Bolton on suspicion of attempted murder after attacking another male in a shop in front of staff and members of the public.
Police were called to the store on Kentmere Road, Breightmet, at around 7:50pm on Saturday (5/4/25) to reports of man holding a machete.
The machete was used to attack a man in the shop, who suffered several injuries including to his head and shoulder, and is being treated in hospital.
His attacker caused extensive damage to the shop and fled the scene.
A man in his 30s was arrested this afternoon (Sunday) by firearms officers, on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Lee Shaw, the SIO from Wigan CID, said: “The incident was witnessed by people in the shop, including children who must have been extremely frightened.
“The incident has been captured on CCTV, which shows the suspect swinging a large machete with blatant disregard of various members of the public close to him.
“We believe this was a targeted attack and the two men knew each other, and we have acted swiftly to ensure a dangerous individual is in custody.
“Even though we have someone in custody, this is still an active investigation, and we are appealing for any information or eye witness accounts of the incident quoting log 2976-050425.
