This year’s Caribbean Carnival has officially started, with thousands of people lining the streets as part of the weekend fun and celebrations.
With a vibrant mix of traditions and cultures, GMP is proud to be supporting the event, which has been entertaining crowds in Manchester for more than 50 years.
Officers have worked closely with carnival organisers, security staff, and Manchester City Council to prepare for the weekend and ensure an enjoyable environment for all attendees.
To this end, GMP will be providing resources and expertise throughout the weekend to ensure community safety.
This includes proactively patrolling during the carnival and being on-hand to assist with any issues that may arise.

Superintendent Muz Kernain, from GMP’s Manchester district, said: “Caribbean Carnival is a huge date in Manchester’s calendar and GMP are committed to helping organisers deliver a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience.
“Officers will be on hand throughout the process of carnival, with dedicated plans in place to assist with a seamless and smooth running of the event.
“Our partnership work with Manchester Caribbean Carnival and Manchester City Council has reaffirmed our joint commitment in delivering a vibrant and safe weekend for all attendees.
“Any form of crime will not be tolerated, and we ask the public to be mindful of those around them as they take part in the festivities. If you need any help at any time, our officers will be there for you.”
If you see anything suspicious, feel unsafe or have any concerns which require police assistance or support, speak with one of our officers.
