Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision at 7:15am today (Wednesday 31 December 2025) on Cadishead Way in Irlam.
The driver, a 48-year-old man, collided with a roundabout which the car to veer off the road and he sadly died at the scene.
His family are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
The passenger in the car, a 50-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Investigators are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and assist their investigation.
They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any CCTV footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or Ring doorbell footage from the area in the moments leading up to the incident.
