Officers investigating reports of males engaging in illegal activity while on off-road bikes in the Bolton area secured two arrests this morning.
At around 10am, we were called to reports of males on off road motorbikes causing a nuisance in Bolton town centre.
In recent days, officers had received additional reports of males on motorbikes harassing the public, causing criminal damage, and driving dangerously around pedestrians.
GMP’s specialist Roads Policing Unit & Motorcycle Team, along with the North Police Air Service and the Tactical Dog Unit, subsequently sprung into action, beginning a pursuit that took officers across Bolton.
The bikes were seen to weave in and out of traffic, causing a danger to other road users as they were pursued by officers.
While one man was arrested after abandoning their bike, another was arrested after tactical contact was made between his bike and a police car.
Two males, aged 21 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply, possession of an offensive weapon, failing to stop and dangerous driving. They remain in custody for questioning. The motorcycle has been seized and will be disposed of.
Chief Inspector Michael Parker, from GMP’s Road’s Policing Team, said: “We know just how much people are annoyed by off-road bikes and similar vehicles, which can be a complete nuisance and even danger to responsible road users.
“Whenever we receive reports of them being used illegally, we will always look to take action, as we know that is exactly what the public wants. Today’s fantastic result shows the array of resources we have at disposal: specialist drivers, riders, police dogs, and a brilliant helicopter team. Anyone thinking about engaging in criminality on these bikes should definitely think twice.”
