At around 2.30am on New Year's Day (Wednesday 1 January 2024), we received a report of a sexual assault on Whitworth Street in Manchester City Centre.
From enquiries so far, it is believed that the victim engaged in a conversation with an unknown man, they then walked to Vimto Gardens, and it was reported that the man sexually assaulted the victim.
Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.
Detective Constable Andrew Halliwell of GMP’s City Centre CID, said: “The victim is receiving support at this difficult time and help, and support will always be there for people who come forward and report sexual offences.
“Our investigation is at a stage now where we can ask the public for assistance to locate and speak to this man.
“Despite the passage of time, we have been investigating this incident thoroughly from exploring forensic opportunities to ensuring we had the full support from the victim.
“If you recognise the man in the image, I urge you to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact us direct on 101 quoting incident number 1118 of 01/01/2024, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 08 555 111.”
