Following a shooting on Shaw Road in Oldham on Thursday 16 January 2025, our officers have arrested eight males in connection with the incident.
We were called at 12.15pm to reports that a man leaving a taxi had been shot by an unknown suspect who was on an electric bike.
The victim – an 18-year-old man - was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.
Since the incident, officers from our Oldham district and our Major Incident Team have arrested eight males, all on suspicion of attempted murder.
Three juveniles, alongside an 18-year-old and two men in their 20s remain in custody for questioning.
Two men, a 19-year-old and another in his 40s have been released on bail pending further investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley from our Major Incident Team said: “We have been working tirelessly around the clock to identify those responsible, and I would like to reassure the community that this is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public.
“We are determined to deliver justice for the victim who sustained very serious injuries and is lucky to be alive.
“Firearms have no place on the streets of Oldham and Greater Manchester as a whole, and we take incidents like this incredibly seriously.”
