At around 4pm on Thursday 16 January 2025, officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) were alerted to a road traffic collision at the junction of Atherleigh Way and Parsonage Way in Leigh.
Enquiries have suggested a double decker bus driver had suffered a medical episode at the wheel, colliding with a tree and roadside barrier.
The driver, a 62-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he later died. His next of kin have been informed.
The bus was out of service and was not carrying any passengers. No one else was injured in the crash.
Our investigators are now appealing for further details and especially to those who have access to dashcam, doorbell and CCTV footage of the moments leading up to the incident to help complete their enquiries.
Anyone with details they can share is asked to call 101 or 0161 856 4741 direct quoting incident 2166 of 16/01/2025. Alternatively, details can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
