Yesterday (Wednesday 22 January 2025), a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and theft in Wigan, following an incident the day before (Tuesday 21 January 2025).
Officers received a report in the afternoon of an attempted robbery of a mobile phone in Wigan Town Centre. Our Neighbourhood Crime Team (NCT) worked extensively to identify the suspect and traced him to the town centre. Upon being searched they recovered a phone which was suspected to be stolen.
Detective Inspector Carla Deighton, from our Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Tackling robbery is a force priority, and I hope that the swift action by our NCT officers show that we are committed to ensuring a safer community.
It is vital that the people of Wigan are able to go about their day safely and confidently. Your Neighbourhood Team is dedicated to diligently investigating and bringing justice to victims.”
If you have any concerns about crime, you can report it by calling 101 or via LiveChat on gmp.police.uk. Always call 999 in an emergency.
