Man jailed for eight years in connection to the death of Badri Issa, who was fatally stabbed in 2023

Kevell Blake (DoB 31/12/2003), of Bromshill Drive in Cheetham Hill, was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to eight years in prison on Friday 10 January 2025 at Manchester Crown Court. 

Shortly before 8pm on Wednesday 25 October 2023, we were called to reports of a stabbing of a man on Moss Lane East, in Moss Side. 

Emergency services attended the scene and located a 22-year-old victim who had suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital. Sadly, he died later that evening, and a murder investigation was launched. 

The victim was later confirmed to be 22-year-old, Badri Issa. 

In the events leading up to the attack, Badri met up with his friend to go to their regular gym class. As they travelled along Princess Road towards the city centre, they noticed a white car driving next to them, trying to get their attention. 

Raami Mohamed, who was driving the white vehicle, gestured for Badri’s friend to pull over. Both cars turned onto Moss Lane East and parked in the bus layby. 

Badri’s friend got out of the car, but was confronted by Mohamed, who appeared agitated and aggressive. Badri got out of the car to try to de-escalate the situation, but he was stabbed in the process. 

He collapsed, but the men continued a violent assault on Badri’s friend, all of which played out in the early evening, with passers-by stopping to provide assistance. 

Following an extensive investigation into Badri’s death, two men were arrested and charged with murder. 

Raami Mohammed (DoB 02/02/2002), of Fairy Lane, Manchester, was found guilty of murder and subsequently handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years, following a two-week trial in May 2024. 

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Naismith, GMP’s Senior Investigating Officer for the murder of Badri Issa, said: “This has been a long and difficult time for the family of Badri Issa, as they have had to wait several months for the second part of this investigation. 

“I’d like to thank the investigations team for the painstaking work they have put into seeking Justice for Badri’s family and loved ones. 

“Badri tragically lost his life as he tried to keep the peace and de-escalate a situation. My thoughts will always remain with his family and friends, who have had to endure so much. 

“As Badri’s family try to move on to some kind of normality with their lives, I hope this sentence can bring them a sense of closure knowing that both of his killers are behind bars, though it will never be enough to replace Badri, nor lesson their pain from his loss.”
