Police were called to a report of an aggravated burglary involving the use of a firearm in Whitefield at around 2.30am this morning (Wednesday 15 January 2025).
Officers from GMP’s armed response units swiftly attended the victim’s home within minutes of the report being made and officers from our Specialist Operations branch worked together proactively to quickly identify, locate and safely stop a vehicle suspected to have been used by the offenders.
The vehicle was located on Manchester Road heading towards Whitefield and following a short pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle were quickly and safely apprehended by armed officers.
Two men aged 55 and 37 one woman aged 54 were all arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
They remain in custody ahead of being questioned by Bury’s Criminal Investigation Department and the vehicle has been seized for forensic analysis and examination.
Superintendent Paul Walker, of GMP’s Specialist Operations, said: “The work done by our Specialist Operations branch is invaluable and shows the importance of specialist teams using their skills to work together.
“The outcome could have been very different but because of the quick-thinking actions of the officers no one was injured “
“The suspects all remain in custody and are currently waiting to be interviewed by detectives in Bury.
“Capabilities from Specialist Operations teams are used to fight and prevent crime in communities across Greater Manchester day and night and in the early hours of this morning, other officers in the branch from the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, were out and making burglary arrests in South Manchester after a vehicle was reported stolen showing the dedication and commitment from officers in the unit to put a stop to those who think it is acceptable to use our roads dangerously.”
