At Manchester Crown Court on Friday 17 January 2025, three men received custodial sentences totalling over 29 years for their involvement in a shooting in Little Hulton in May 2024.
On Sunday 26 May 2024 a targeted attack took place at a property on Aspinall Crescent in Little Hulton at around 9.30pm. This attack resulted in a 20-year-old man being shot in the chest and receiving life-threatening injuries. The victim was fortunate to survive his injuries after receiving hospital treatment.
GMP’s Challenger Team in Salford quickly launched an investigation which resulted in all three men being found guilty with wounding with intent.
Detectives focused on CCTV from the scene of the shooting, which enabled them to trace the movements of the three men to key locations, which included disposing of a vehicle used in the attack by setting it alight in attempts to remove evidence. They also traced all three men to an address which was used to co-ordinate their crimes.
Detectives also found evidence of false registration plates being obtained to try to conceal their tracks from CCTV trawls.
On Friday 28 June 2025, after a warrant at an address in James Street, Farnworth, the firearm used to injure the victim was also recovered from an address in Farnworth.
Hundreds of hours of CCTV footage was gathered and viewed to meticulously piece together a thorough timeline of the three men’s movements, which alongside extensive phone analysis, allowed detectives in the Challenger team to present compelling evidence to court that evidenced that the attack was targeted, organised and pre-meditated.
James Gregory (02/06/2004) of West Way, Salford was jailed for eight years and four months wounding with intent and additionally pleaded guilty to possession of a machete and being concerned in the supply of class B drugs.
Tyler Harrison (23/09/2004) of Kent Street in Swinton, received a sentence of eight years and ten months after being found guilty of wounding with intent, he additionally pleaded guilty to supply of class A and B, money laundering and possession with intent to supply both class A and class B drugs, all of which came to light during our investigation into the shooting.
The final man to be sentenced, Jacob Humphreys (03/05/2003) of Chanters Avenue in Tyldesley was jailed for 12 years for wounding with intent.
Detective Inspector Rebecca McGuigan, of the Challenger Organised Crime and District Intelligence Unit, said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who has worked so hard on this case, it was complex and fast-moving but we were able to quickly identify those responsible for the shooting and bring them to justice. We are also pleased to say that the victim has since made a full recovery.
