Investigators appeal for key witness following death of elderly woman

The initial incident happened at around 10am on Friday 14 February 2025 on Oldham Central Bee Network tram stop, our officers would now like to identify and speak to a key witness they have identified.

The man pictured is not a suspect in this investigation and at the time enquiries have uncovered he helped the 88-year-old woman after she got stuck in the tram doors when it was stationary.

She was sadly found deceased a week later on Saturday 22 February 2025.

Investigative Support Officer Aislinn Sweeney from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said; “As our investigation continues, we are keeping an open mind into how this woman tragically passed away.

“It is unclear whether it will be connected to this incident, but following proactive patrols, CCTV trawls and active enquiries we have be unable to identify this man we believe has key information that could help us.

“I would like to make it clear he is not a suspect in this investigation and is not connected in any way to our investigation. We simply want to identify him as a witness to the initial incident to understand more.
