Aaron Grant (18/05/1982) of NFA was sentenced to seven years imprisonment at Manchester Crown Court today (Thursday 6 March 2025) after being found guilty at trial of unlawful wounding with intent.
He was also made the subject of a life-long restraining order against the victim.
On Saturday 30 December 2023 at 2:45am, officers were contacted by Manchester Royal Infirmary informing that a man had come in with multiple stab wound injuries.
The victim had been drinking with several other people, celebrating the upcoming New Year.
Grant became more aggressive as the night continued, boasting and making unwanted advances towards a woman.
The victim challenged Grant's behaviour and requested that he leave the room. Grant’s behaviour escalated and he pushed the victim backwards, resulting in an altercation with the victim pushing Grant back.
The victim described being hit by Grant multiple times, but it wasn’t until he looked down and saw blood pouring from his body that he realised these were not punches as he first thought and that Grant had stabbed him numerous times with a knife.
Grant stood over the victim, who was unarmed, afterwards and taunted him saying “Look at you now”.
The victim fled the address, trying to run to hospital while he continued to bleed.
Grant continued to follow the victim down the street with the knife in his hand still taunting him. The victim made it to the MRI where staff wheeled him through to receive emergency medical treatment for the six knife wounds to his back, flank, head and hand.
Grant was arrested after he returned to the address later in the day. During a 999 call reporting the sighting of Grant, he could be heard in the background of the call admitting to the stabbing.
DC Muller said: “This was a callous attack on an innocent and unarmed man who was simply trying to enjoy his evening. He did not expect to be stabbed by a dangerous offender within his own home.
“Grant continued to make admissions during his police interview but argued that he’d acted in “excessive self-defence” because the victim was bigger than him. When asked at what point he thought his actions became excessive he replied “When I got the knife”.
“I am pleased we have managed to secure a good sentence and put him away from harming others.”
