Shortly before 6.30am on Thursday 19 February 2026, we were called to reports of a bin fire at a property at Bardsley Street, Oldham.
Officers attended to support other emergency service colleagues on scene.
A joint investigation was launched alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Officers have arrested a man in his 50s on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and he remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Andy Barrett said: “Due to the proximity of the fire, the occupants of the property suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital as a precaution.
“We want people to understand that incidents like this are not acceptable in our community. The consequences of this suspected arson attack could have been very different, and I am thankful to the officers who have worked quickly to arrest a suspect.
“If you have any further information which may assist our investigation, please get in touch with ourselves.”
