Three teenage boys have today (Friday 27 February 2026) been sentenced for their parts in the death of 14-year-old Ibrahima Seck last summer.
A 14-year-old boy, convicted of murdering Ibrahima on 22 December 2025 after a month-long trial at Manchester Crown Court, will be detained for 11 years and 10 months in a young offender institution.
A second 14-year-old boy will be detained for two years and four months and a 17-year-old boy for two years and 10 months for their roles in Ibrahima's death in Moston.
The two boys were convicted of manslaughter last December.
Keri Dobson (8/5/1988), of Warbeck Road, Moston, and Naomi Heavens (2/8/86), of Kenyon Lane, Moston, were handed 12-month suspended sentences having been convicted of assisting an offender.
This sentencing follows an horrific incident on 8 June 2025 that resulted in Ibrahima being stabbed while on his way to play football.
Ibrahima and his friends were approached by the two 14‑year‑olds and a 16‑year‑old boy, who is now 17, when a fight broke out.
Ibrahima was chased into the Fairways Inn Pub car park, where one of the 14‑year‑olds fatally stabbed him. All three aggressors fled the scene.
Ibrahima suffered significant injuries but managed to reach a nearby house on Nevin Road to ask for help, where he named his attacker to those who tried to assist him.
Residents administered first aid until paramedics arrived, but Ibrahima sadly died in hospital a short time later.
Ibrahima’s father, Mamadou Seck and family, said after today's sentences: “Ibrahima was a very nice boy. He was not at all a bad person.
"Every person in the world would like Ibrahima if they met him. He was smiling all the time, always wanting to help. He is an innocent person. Why Ibrahima?
“He was funny, caring, and hard-working. He was our best friend, and he looked after me.
"He was so smiley and always made everybody laugh. He was a good boy. They have not only killed Ibrahima but the whole family and all those people who loved him. Why would anyone do this to him? He did nothing wrong.”
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Platten from GMP’s Major Investigation Team, Senior Investigating Officer for this case, said: "Today marks the end of a long and difficult trial for the Seck family, whose loving son, Ibrahima Seck, had his life taken from him in a senseless act of violence.
"Our thoughts remain with Ibrahima, his family and their loved ones, and always will.
"I want to say thank you to Ibrahima’s family for their continued strength and support throughout this investigation and trial – their bravery has been commendable."
The act of stabbing another person can take a life in an instant, as seen in this devastating case, but the ripple effects spread far wider and deeper than the moment of harm.
When someone chooses to carry a knife, whether out of fear, bravado or pressure, they may believe it offers protection.
But the reality is the opposite. Carrying a knife increases the likelihood that it will be used. In that moment, lives are shattered.
For Ibrahima, the outcome is tragically irreversible. His life was taken suddenly and violently, leaving the Seck family with unimaginable grief: parents without their son, siblings without a brother, and friends without someone they deeply loved.
The impact on those who knew him is permanent and profound.
Those responsible for this terrible crime, will now serve their sentences in prison. But the consequences extend far beyond their time behind bars. Their decision to carry and use a knife on that day, is something they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
The loss of Ibrahima has affected the whole community surrounding the Moston area.
DCI Platten added: "Knife crime is one of the most devastating forms of violence facing our communities and young people today.
“It takes only a moment - a split‑second decision - to use a knife, but the consequences that follow can last a lifetime.
“GMP has zero tolerance for knife crime, and our dedicated force‑wide knife crime team, Operation Venture, continues to make arrests, seize weapons and proactively disrupt those who choose to carry knives and commit violent offences. This work is supported by every neighbourhood team.
“Choosing not to carry a knife is one of the bravest and most important decisions a young person can make.
"It protects you, your friends, your family and your future. Because once a knife is picked up and used, nobody wins, and nothing can ever undo the damage it causes.
“This sentence will never take away the pain of losing Ibrahima. Their loss is permanent, their grief is lifelong, and no sentence can undo what happened to their son.
“I urge anyone who has even the slightest suspicion that someone they know is carrying a knife to speak to them, challenge them, and report it to police.
“If you don’t feel comfortable speaking to police, you can report this information to Fearless, an offshoot of charity Crimestoppers, aimed at providing young people a safe space to report crime anonymously.”
