Following a shooting on Higher Road in Urmston on Friday 16 January 2026, officers from our Trafford district have made an arrest overnight.
This morning (Monday 19 January 2026), we carried out five simultaneous warrants and arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
He remains in custody for questioning and investigations continue.
The 21-year-old victim is being treated in hospital, where he remains in a stable but critical condition.
Detective Chief Inspector Justin Bryant from our Trafford district said: “Our officers carried out a number of warrants this morning and have managed to secure the arrest of an 18-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
“We will not accept this level of violence on our streets, we have been doing significant work to identify and arrest anyone who we believe is involved in this incident, and we will not stop until we have explored every possible avenue to ascertain why this happened and arrest those responsible.
“Over the past four years – between 2021 and 2025 - we have been able to suppress gun crime and shootings across Greater Manchester by 52 per cent, something that we are incredibly proud of.
“But the work is not done, we will relentlessly pursue, arrest and prosecute anyone who thinks they are above the law.
“I would like to thank the community for their patience and assistance during this investigation, I have heard and understood their worries and concerns, and I would like to reassure them that this is a target attack with no wider threat.
“The public can rest assured that whilst officers continue pursuing lines of enquiry in relation to this incident, colleagues from neighbourhood policing teams will be supporting our ongoing activity and will continue with high visibility reassurance patrols in the local area over the coming days.”
Our officers are still appealing for witnesses or any information from Friday’s incident – anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist our investigation should contact GMP on 101 quoting log 3132 of 16/01/2026
