Two firearms including a sub-machine gun recovered in Stockport

Last Friday (12 June 2026), we located an MP5 sub-machine gun and a Grand Power pistol, along with a quantity of ammunition in Brinnington, Stockport.

No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigations are ongoing. Enquiries are continuing as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the weapons.

The discovery forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activity and remove dangerous weapons from the streets.

Detective Inspector Mark Graham who leads the Stockport Challenger Team said: “We have done some fantastic work in recovering firearms in Greater Manchester - between April 2024 and April 2026 – GMP took 150 firearms off our streets.

“Friday’s discovery has prevented potentially serious harm to those who work and live in the area, these type of weapons have no place on our streets and are incredibly powerful, and dangerous.

“Our investigation is progressing and we are following numerous lines on enquiry in relation to who these belong to and how they ended up where they did.
