At 10.23am today (08/03/2026), we were called to reports of a concern for welfare of a man at an address at Higginshaw Lane, Royton.
Emergency services attended and sadly a man, aged 48, was declared deceased at the scene.
A man, aged 49, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and all lines of enquiry cannot be ruled out at this time.
Detective Inspector Rachel Smith from our Major Incident Team (MIT) said: “Our thoughts remain with the deceased’s loved ones. We understand the concern this incident may cause across the local community, but I would like to reassure you that we believe this to be an isolated incident that poses no wider threat to the public.
"We are open to all lines of enquiry at this early stage of the investigation, and we are conducting extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“You will notice an increased presence in the area whilst we conduct enquiries.
