Two prolific burglars jailed after distressing burglary in Radcliffe

Two men have been sentenced after breaking into a woman’s home in Radcliffe while she was at home caring for her young child, before stealing her BMW from the driveway.

Earlier today (Friday 13 March), the following sentences were handed out at Manchester Crown Court.

  • Lewis Muir (24/10/2003) of Blackley New Road, Manchester was sentenced to 6 years
  • David Boyd (21/01/2004) of Lakin Street, Manchester was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months

The sentences follow a guilty plea made by both men.

At around 2.38am on 11 October 2025, masked men forced entry through the rear door of the property, snapping the lock before searching the address.

They located the keys to a BMW 330E and stole the vehicle, along with a bag containing a diary of baby scan photographs belonging to the victim.

The victim phoned 999, terrified at the fact masked men had just broken into her home and managed to alert the police who dispatched officers immediately.

Just six minutes later, at 2.44am, patrol officers spotted the stolen BMW being driven on Middleton Road in Blackley.

A pursuit followed, during which two men wearing balaclavas were seen inside the vehicle.

After a high-speed pursuit through residential roads and off-road onto a field, officers stuck right by them. The car was eventually abandoned as the males drove themselves into a dead-end and a foot pursuit followed.

The suspects fled from the vehicle, but officers had deployed several officers as well as our Tactical Dog Unit to hunt the suspects down.

Quickly, the two men were detained nearby attempting to cowardly hide, with one covering under a child's umbrella in a back garden.

Officers recovered mole grips still containing the victim’s lock barrel from inside the vehicle.

Both men were already on prison licence, serving four-and-a-half-year sentences for conspiracy to commit burglary, at the time of the incident. They were charged with burglary and subsequently recalled to prison.

Following an extensive investigation by the Oldham Neighbourhood Crime Team (NCT), Muir was also linked to a series of further offences across the Oldham area and was charged with:

  • 6 × Burglary
  • 2 × Attempted burglary
  • 3 × Taking a motor vehicle without consent (TOMV)

A GMP spokesperson said: "Both offenders are prolific burglars who have relentlessly targeted high-value vehicles across Greater Manchester.

“Their cowardly actions were particularly distressing for the victims.

"Thanks to the swift response of our officers, the suspects were intercepted within minutes of one of the offences and vital evidence was recovered that led to these convictions”
