Officers were called shortly after 12.15pm on Friday 8 May 2026 to reports of a disturbance on Market Street, Wigan.
We quickly attended the scene, and four men have been arrested. An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
Two boys, aged 17, have been arrested on suspicion of affray.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of drug related offences and affray.
All remain in custody at this time, and enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
One male suffered injuries believed to be caused by a knife and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Shaw of GMP’s Wigan district said: “We understand that incidents like this can be concerning for our communities, but I want to reassure residents and visitors that this appears to be an isolated incident.
"We have four men currently in custody and are working at pace to establish the full circumstances.
“There will be an increased police presence in Wigan town centre over the weekend to provide reassurance and ensure people can continue to enjoy the area safely. Please speak to our officers if you have any concerns.”
