Two teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and possession of an offensive weapon after our Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) stopped an e-bike on Moor Road in Wythenshawe.
While out on patrol in the area, two passengers on an e-bike flew past our officers and failed to stop for them at around 2pm on Tuesday afternoon (12 May 2026).
After a short pursuit, the TVIU vehicle made tactical contact with the e-bike, bringing them to a stop on the tram lines at Moor Road before one of the passengers made off.
The rider of the bike was apprehended instantly by one of our officers, whereas the pillion was caught by a second officer after a short foot chase.
Two machetes were recovered at the scene.
Both suspects were taken to hospital as a precaution following the contact with the police vehicle, with both teenagers being released to custody with no injuries.
The pillion – a 17-year-old boy – has been released with no further action, the rider of the e-bike – another 17-year-old boy – remains in custody for questioning.
Investigations are ongoing.
Sergeant Ollie Rose from our City of Manchester district said: “This incident highlights the proactive and highly skilled work our officers carry out every day to keep dangerous individuals and weapons off our streets.
“Thanks to the swift, coordinated and controlled actions of our Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, two suspects were safely detained, and two machetes were recovered.
“We understand how concerning incidents like this can be for the public, particularly when they happen in broad daylight, and we want to reassure communities in Wythenshawe that their safety remains our top priority. We will continue to take decisive action against anyone who chooses to carry weapons or put others at risk.”
