Officers are appealing for information after an assault on Wilmslow Road, Manchester at around 5:15am on Sunday 26 January 2020.
Enquiries have established that there was a disturbance opposite the junction of Thurloe Street during which an assault occurred.
A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
An investigation is underway and police are asking for witnesses or anyone with any footage of the incident to contact them.
Detective Inspector Stuart Woodhead, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “This was a brutal assault in which a man has suffered a serious and potentially life changing injury.
“There were a large number of people present at the time and I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to please speak to police as soon as possible.
“We are treating this assault very seriously and any information, no matter how insignificant you may feel it is, could prove vital as we piece together exactly what happened.”
