Assistant Chief Officer Ian Cosh, one of the most senior members of Police Staff at GMP, joined officers and staff on our dedicated #OpAVRO day of action for child protection and safeguarding.

Bury CPIU and Early Break have teamed up today to run a Safety Information stall at Millgate Shopping Centre in Bury! Swing by to get valuable safety tips and information.
GMP's Mounted Unit is on hi-vis patrols today, including in Manchester City Centre, supporting the Op Avro day of action. Our majestic police horses provide a visible presence, enhancing community safety and reinforcing our commitment to protecting children.
Our police training school at Sedgley Park has ran a series of training inputs to hundreds of GMP officers at all level around 'Voice of the Child' and adopting a 'Trauma Informed' approach when dealing with children. This is part of our commitment to child protection, ensuring a coordinated effort across all levels of the force to keep children safe and raise awareness among our staff.
We have also been working with the Childrens society to support children in police custody to offer safeguarding and support and work together to help prevent them reoffending and returning.
Commenting on the day of action, The Childrens Society said: "It was an absolute privilege to be part of this operation in safeguarding children with GMP".

Officers executed a warrant in Middleton for a shop suspected of selling illegal vapes. No illegal vapes were seized however, toy guns that didn't meet safety standards were discovered. The toy guns also look like imitation firearms and were seized as part of our operation to keep children and the public safe.
Officers have been conducting a series of raids in support of our dedicated operation to protect and safeguard children #OpAVRO. As part of that work, we have found and seized some illegal vapes in Heywood.
Greater Manchester Police in partnership with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) have been running an event using virtual reality kits to offer an insight into the dangers of unsafe driving.
GMFRS were joined by partners from across Greater Manchester to help provide a variety of life saving lessons on road safety and the consequences of dangerous driving.
The virtual reality (VR) equipment has been used since 2023 to educate people on road safety. The kits have access to a variety of themed topics on safety and provide an immersive experience for learning and experiencing the dangers of certain behaviours.
It gives a realistic, immersive experience to someone about the consequences of dangerous driving. They offer a fantastic way to engage young people in driving safely and bring awareness of the true cost of dangerous driving in terms of the human cost and the cost to the public purse.

Our Op Vulcan specialist taskforce is supporting our child protection and safeguarding day of action too, alongside local neighbourhood officers and PCSO’s.
These officers are embedded into Piccadilly Gardens working to identify the root causes of the existing problems and work closely with local residents and partners to eliminate the criminality in all its forms, helping to create a safer community and supporting businesses to thrive and grow.
Ted the digi dog is with us today from Cheshire Police support our child protection and safeguarding #OpAvro. Ted is a digital search dog and his expertise include helping to find hidden digital storage devices which might be used to hold illegal images.
So far, as part of our child protection and safeguarding #OpAVRO, we've made 15 arrests for a variety of offences including on suspicion of sharing indecent images, breach of orders in place to prevent sexual harm, and drug-related offences. Our operation to safeguard children is underway.

Officers, police staff, and partner agencies have attended an early morning briefing in relation to our dedicated child protection #OpAVRO.
