Operation AVRO - Wigan #2
A new force-wide initiative - codenamed Operation AVRO - which will run each month in a different district.
We will bring you real-time updates including images and video as activity continues throughout the day.
Total arrests now stand at 40 as part of our day of action for Op AVRO. Officers are out and about across Leigh this afternoon where they recently held a street briefing.
Officers have conducted a raid at a location in Wigan and Leigh in partnership with trading standards.
Several items have been seized including fake vapes with an estimated street value of £3500.
These items were found along with Class A drugs, a stolen car and a large machete.
Officers made three arrests at the scene.
Officers have held a street briefing with partners ahead of an afternoon of proactive highly visible policing. Officers will be working with partners to tackle the crimes that matter to you most.

Total arrests now stand at 37 for various offences. #OpAVRO coninues this afternoon.

He was quickly detained and found to be disqualified from driving.
Passenger also found to possess cannabis.

- Total arrests as part of our day of action are now at 31 for various offences.
- Officers have seized several weapons, including a large so called "zombie knife", which are now off the streets of Greater Manchester
- The arrests total now stands at 22 for various offences
- A total of 26 cars have been stopped as part of a dedicated traffic operation targetting those using our roads illegally
- £5,000 worth of cash has been found along with a large quantity of class A drugs.
In total so far, we've had 21 arrests for a range of offences, including domestic abuse, assault and others.
Our officers out on #OpAVRO today have now conducted a series of warrants across Wigan and Leigh.
The first photos have now landed showing our officers working to fight, prevent and reduce crime in your area.

Operation AVRO is our flagship monthly initiative to take the fight back to the criminals.
Last time #OpAVRO came to Wigan and Leigh we saw some phenomenal results with 56 arrests for a range of offences and a traffic operation that successfully targeted 133 speeding offences.
