Honour-Based Abuse
Honour-based abuse is a crime or incident committed to protect or defend the 'honour' of a family or community. Victims may be subject to various crimes, including forced marriage, domestic abuse, sexual harassment or sexual violence. They often have their freedom taken away also and may not be allowed to see friends, or have a mobile phone and internet access.
Every day young women and men are living in fear of those who are meant to love, protect and nurture them. Perpetrators of honour-based abuse are often close family members and victims are understandably scared to speak out, but support is available.
If you need help, or have concerns about somebody else, please reach out to Greater Manchester Police or one of the following non-police support organisations.
