Below is a summary of activity we've undertaken as part of the Safe4Summer campaign across Bury:
As part of Safe4Summer, there have been increased patrols around Bury town centre alongside the anti-social behaviour team from Bury Council.
A joint agency approach to keep Bury a safe place means we tackle issues head-on and provide visible reassurance to our community.
Following multiple complaints about street drinking in Kay Gardens, officers spent time in the area with no incidents or issues taking place during their patrol. However, one man was stopped and searched on suspicion of shoplifting.
Officers also conducted patrols in hotspot areas, and numerous intelligence reports were obtained that will advise further patrols.
Regeneration work into Bury Market continues, and we’re working closely with partners and our communities to make Bury a safe place to live, shop and work.

As part of the force’s continued commitment to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB), officers from Bury and Transport Unit have been conducting traffic operations in the local area.
Working in partnership with the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) and Wolverhampton Council, the operation comes following concerns reported from the local community around issues including speeding, ASB and other road traffic offences.
During one operation, officers issued a total of 46 Traffic Offence Reports for a range of offences, including no insurance, defective vehicles, and speeding. There was also one arrest for drug offences after the driver tested positive for cannabis at the roadside.
These checks are vital in ensuring vehicles are safe, roadworthy and not being used to enable crime or ASB, in turn keeping members of our community safe.

Officers have recently been conducting Operation Heartbeat patrols in the town centre, with the aim of reducing violence and ASB.
The team patrolled hotspot areas and engaged with members of the public.

GMP welcomed Angela Eagle MP to Bury town centre to observe efforts tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB).
The minister joined a neighbourhood policing operation targeting ASB hotspots identified through data analysis. She met with council representatives, town centre security, Chief Inspector Michael Barton, and the initiative’s Superintendent to discuss the partnership work improving visibility and safety in the area.

On Monday 1 September, officers and partners took to Bury town centre for a patrol alongside James Frith, MP for Bury North.
This engagement formed part of the ongoing Safe4Summer initiative, which supports the Home Office’s Safer Streets programme. The aim is to tackle crime in town centres through visible policing and collaborative problem-solving.
Inspector Kevin Wright led the patrol, joined by neighbourhood officers and representatives from Bury BID, Bury Council, and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). Together, they walked through Kay Gardens and the Millgate shopping centre, highlighting the proactive partnership efforts currently underway to improve safety.
As part of a joint operation with Metrolink, officers also conducted ticket checks and addressed incidents of anti-social behaviour on the tram network, ensuring a safer travel environment for passengers.
