Below is a summary of activity we've undertaken as part of the Safe4Summer campaign across Wigan and Leigh:

Neighbourhood officers have been tackling concerns that have been raised by communities with a focus on e-bikes.
Led by Sergeant Ian Callaghan, officers from our neighbourhood tasking team, alongside our tutor unit, were out conducting operations in Wigan town centre, Leigh town centre and Robin Park.

Officers in Leigh recently seized six e-bikes during a day of action to tackle the illegal use of e-bikes.
Plain clothed and uniformed officers seized six bikes, including two that we tested, which could reach speeds of over 60mph, far exceeding the legal limits of 15.5mph (without pedalling) and posing a serious risk to public safety.

An operation targeting illegal vapes and tobacco in Leigh town centre saw £10,000 worth of illicit products seized following two simultaneous warrants.
On Tuesday 9 September 2025, officers from the Leigh town centre neighbourhood policing team worked with Trading Standards to remove illegal items off the streets and prevent them from being sold.
Working alongside Wagtail, who provide trained detection dogs for operations like these, 954 packs of illegal cigarettes and tobacco were seized, alongside 309 illegal vapes with a combined value of £10,000.
