Fancy becoming a VIP escort driver, an advanced motorcyclist, pursuit Tac advisor, family liaison officer or even a roads policing lead investigator?
Join GMP and we’ll train you to do your chosen role in our unit, which sits within the Safer Transport Team and does much more than just traditional roads policing.
Where you’ll operate
Roads policing officers currently operate from two strategically placed bases at Eccles Police Station in the west and Ashton Police Station in the east.
Our officers are responsible for the policing of one of the most diverse road networks in the UK, which has an area covering 492sqm and a population of approximately 2.7million.
GMP has one of the busiest motorway networks in Europe, including the M62 Trans-Pennine motorway, the M60 Ring Road, M66, M61, M602, M56, M67 and A627(M). Our road section goes far beyond the motorways and includes not only the busy inner-city parts of Manchester, but some of the most rural and secluded parts of Saddleworth Moor.
What you’ll be doing
Our officers have specialist skills that see them involved in a multitude of operations.
With two Premier League football teams and numerous venues for large public events, music concerts and major sports tournaments, roads policing in GMP brings additional, exciting and rewarding opportunities.
Looking for a role that’s rewarding and challenging, with the potential to progress?
Roads policing officers enjoy interesting and varied careers, with opportunities to develop their experience and skills beyond the traditional patrol and enforcement.
What you’ll drive
We’ve made significant investment into our roads policing unit to ensure our officers are best equipped to carry out their roles.
Our fleet of BMW X5s, 530s and 330s has expanded recently to include T8 hybrid Volvos, VW Touaregs, Audi A4 and A6s, Skoda VRSs, Focus STs and other specialist vehicles.
We also have a fleet of BMW RT1200 motorcycles, BMW GS800 and off-road motorbikes.
Each of our vehicles is kitted out with state-of-the-art technology, such as ANPR and video recording equipment, to enable you to help us keep Greater Manchester’s roads safe.
