Greater Manchester is one of the largest policing areas within England and Wales covering an area of nearly 500 square miles. It is home to approximately 2.8 million people, forming 1.2 million households. This makes Greater Manchester the second largest city region in the UK and home to almost 5% of the UK population.
While the region has some rural and remote areas, it is a predominantly urban conurbation that comprises the two cities of Manchester and Salford, surrounded by eight large metropolitan areas which are: Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, and Wigan. Although a single functioning economic area, one of the hallmarks of Greater Manchester is its great variety and diversity: whether in its people (its residents, student populations, those who travel in for work, and those who choose to visit); or its places (its neighbourhoods, town centres, amenities, cultural attractions and green spaces).

The selection process will include a shortlisting process, interview, fitness test, full medical assessment, vetting/security checks and references taken up with your current force.
You must be competent in your current role and have no live or pending disciplinary actions. Good attendance is important to us and this will be requested in the references that will be undertaken with your current force prior to a formal offer of appointment being made.

We will accept applications from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) if you have been recruited after 2014 and have attended SEARCH and followed the IPLDP training programme. Please note that you will be asked to provide proof of completion of the IPLDP training at the eligibility stage of the application process.
