I am Inspector Amie Whitehead and I am responsible for Oldham South & West which covers Failsworth, Hollinwood, Medlock Vale, Chadderton and Werneth.
I have over 23 years experience in GMP and have worked in many different departments and roles during that time but have always stayed in district Policing. I served the first 18 years of my career in Rochdale before I moved to Oldham in 2019 on promotion.
I am passionate about Neighbourhood Policing and the positive impact this can have. The landscape of the South & West of Oldham sees my teams dealing with a wide variety of incidents and crime type. This ranges from dealing with local crime, disorder and ASB to protecting the most vulnerable people in our area and improving the quality of life for our residents.
I want my teams to engage with their communities, understand the issues that are important to you and work with you to make Oldham a safer place to live and work. We hold regular surgeries across the area and take part in lots of community events to be visible in your community. My team and I also have strong relationships with other key partners and we meet with them regularly to establish joint priorities and work together to resolve them.
My Officers are working hard to improve communication with you. I would like to encourage you to sign up to Bee In The Loop, GMPs two-way community messaging service so that you can stay informed about what is happening in your area and what the Police are doing to tackle it. You can also follow GMP Oldham on Facebook for regular information and updates or contact the team directly.
Insp 17513 Amie Whitehead
Neighbourhood Inspector – Oldham South & West
Oldham Police Station
Greater Manchester Police
I am Sergeant Tom Layton, the Neighbourhood Sergeant responsible for Oldham West, covering the communities of Chadderton and Werneth.
With over 10 years of policing experience, I have served in a variety of frontline roles while remaining committed to district policing throughout my career. I began my service with West Yorkshire Police, spending six years in the Kirklees Division before transferring to Greater Manchester Police and joining Oldham on promotion in 2023.
My policing style is built around a proactive approach to tackling crime and protecting our communities. My team works relentlessly to address violent crime, target those involved in the use and supply of drugs, disrupt criminal use of the road network, and take robust action against offenders who cause harm in our neighbourhoods.
I am passionate about neighbourhood policing and the positive impact it can have on local communities. Chadderton and Werneth are vibrant and diverse areas, and my team is dedicated to tackling the issues that matter most to residents. From addressing crime, anti-social behaviour and road safety concerns to safeguarding vulnerable people, we are committed to improving the quality of life for everyone who lives and works in our communities.
Engagement with our residents is at the heart of what we do. My officers regularly attend community meetings, neighbourhood surgeries and local events, ensuring they remain visible, approachable and responsive to local concerns. We work closely with partner agencies, community groups and local stakeholders to identify priorities and deliver long-term solutions to issues affecting our area.
I would encourage residents to sign up to Bee in the Loop, Greater Manchester Police's community messaging service, to stay informed about policing activity in their neighbourhood.
