I am Stu Berry, Police Inspector, covering Saddleworth & Lees, Royton, Shaw and Crompton, St James & Waterhead.
I’ve worked for GMP for 20 years covering various areas and in a variety of specialist and non-specialist roles including Chairman of Greater Manchester Police Federation. I am a resident of Oldham, and I am passionate about making our community safer, reducing crime and antisocial behaviour.
My team and I understand the local issues which can range from antisocial behaviour drugs offences and serious acquisitive crime. My officers and staff are, and will continue, to work hard day and night to ensure that we can provide an effective neighbourhood policing strategy.
My ask from the local community is that you work alongside my team and I and provide information and intelligence which can be implemented into our policing response to local issues. That flow of information and intelligence from the community will give us the tools to do the job. It is vital for our ongoing endeavours to be proactive and bring people to justice.

Together with my team, I am committed to listening to local people, responding to community concerns and taking positive action to tackle the issues that have the greatest impact on those who live and work in St James and Waterhead.
I have served with Greater Manchester Police for three and a half years and currently work as the Neighbourhood Officer for the Waterhead area. In this role, I work closely with residents, local businesses and partner agencies to address community concerns, reduce crime and improve public safety.
My current priorities include tackling drug use and drug dealing in the Waterhead Area, addressing vehicle-related anti-social behaviour, reducing shoplifting, and supporting long-term problem-solving initiatives that help create lasting improvements within the community. I regularly attend neighbourhood engagement events and collaborate with local partners to address the issues that matter most to residents.
I encourage members of the community to attend local meetings and share any concerns they may have. By working together, we can help make Waterhead a safer, stronger and more welcoming place to live, work and visit the Waterhead area.

Neighbourhood Crime - Residential Burglary, Vehicle Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour including off road bikes and drug dealing.
Issued 26 August 2026
Officers have worked closely with the council and installed Section 59 warning signs in many local authority and privately owned open-space car parks. These signs act as a deterrent to individuals using vehicles in these areas outside of working hours, as any anti-social use can result in the seizure of the vehicle.
In addition, officers are conducting high-visibility patrols, particularly during late evenings, to tackle anti-social behaviour and reassure the community. Local officers will be gathering intelligence on criminal activity and will utilise stop-and-search powers to detect offences, including knife crime and drug dealing. Anyone found in possession of controlled drugs and/or weapons will be arrested, and those committing anti-social vehicular offences will have their vehicles seized.
