I am Inspector Amie Whitehead and I am responsible for Oldham South & West which covers Failsworth, Hollinwood, Medlock Vale, Chadderton and Werneth.
I have over 23 years experience in GMP and have worked in many different departments and roles during that time but have always stayed in district Policing. I served the first 18 years of my career in Rochdale before I moved to Oldham in 2019 on promotion.
I am passionate about Neighbourhood Policing and the positive impact this can have. The landscape of the South & West of Oldham sees my teams dealing with a wide variety of incidents and crime type. This ranges from dealing with local crime, disorder and ASB to protecting the most vulnerable people in our area and improving the quality of life for our residents.
I want my teams to engage with their communities, understand the issues that are important to you and work with you to make Oldham a safer place to live and work. We hold regular surgeries across the area and take part in lots of community events to be visible in your community. My team and I also have strong relationships with other key partners and we meet with them regularly to establish joint priorities and work together to resolve them.
My Officers are working hard to improve communication with you. I would like to encourage you to sign up to Bee In The Loop, GMPs two-way community messaging service so that you can stay informed about what is happening in your area and what the Police are doing to tackle it. You can also follow GMP Oldham on Facebook for regular information and updates or contact the team directly.

Anti-social behaviour and overt drug use primarily in car parking and industrial areas. The peak time for offences is during the late evenings.
Issued 06 May 2026
Officers have worked closely with the council and have installed section 59 warning signs in many local authorities and privately owned open space car parks. These signs will act as a deterrent to people using their own vehicles in these car parks outside of working hours as any anti-social use can result in seizure of the vehicle.
Officers are also conducting high visibility patrolling, particularly during the late evenings. Local officers will also be gathering intelligence and will be utilising their stop and search powers to detect offences. Anyone found in possession of controlled drugs and/or weapons will be arrested and anyone found to be committing anti social vehicular offences will have their vehicle seized.
