about

Your Neighbourhood Policing Team is a group of local police officers and staff dedicated to serving your community. The team is made up of police officers and a dedicated Police Community Support Officer (PCSO). These are supported by additional officers and staff from the wider area.

We work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for your area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on the basics: to fight, prevent and reduce crime, whilst keeping people safe and caring for victims.

If you want to receive regular updates about what we're doing in your area, want to contact us easily with your feedback, or receive alerts about incidents, you can sign up to our community alerts system. You'll receive emails or text messages about the issues you tell us you want to know about.

Drug Use and Neighbourhood Issues - Worsley Mesnes

Addressing drug-related activity and neighbourhood concerns remains a key priority within the Worsley Mesnes community. We recognise the significant impact that drug use, drug dealing, anti-social behaviour, and ongoing neighbour disputes can have on residents' quality of life and feelings of safety.

Our Neighbourhood Policing Team is working closely with housing providers, Wigan Council and other partner agencies to identify and tackle locations linked to drug misuse, criminal activity, and persistent anti-social behaviour. Community intelligence remains vital in helping us target offenders, safeguard vulnerable individuals, and take positive action where concerns are identified.

We will continue to carry out intelligence-led patrols, execute enforcement activity where appropriate, and utilise powers available to disrupt those involved in the supply and use of illegal drugs. Working alongside partners, we will also seek longer-term solutions through tenancy enforcement, safeguarding interventions, closure orders, and prosecutions where the evidence supports such action.

Neighbourhood disputes and ongoing nuisance behaviour can have a lasting impact on local residents. Through a problem-solving approach, we will work with all relevant agencies to address the root causes of these issues, support those affected, and prevent problems from escalating further.

By combining enforcement, prevention, safeguarding and partnership working, we aim to reduce drug-related harm, tackle anti-social behaviour, and improve the quality of life for residents across Worsley Mesnes. Our priority is to protect vulnerable people, disrupt criminality, and ensure Worsley Mesnes remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work and visit.

    Retail Crime - Worsley Mesnes

Tackling retail crime remains a key priority within the Worsley Mesnes area. We are committed to investigating all reports of shop theft and retail-related offending where proportionate lines of enquiry exist and will take robust action against those responsible.

Our Neighbourhood Policing Team works closely with local retailers, security teams, partner agencies and the wider community to identify offenders, gather evidence and address the issues affecting businesses across Worsley Mesnes. We understand the impact that retail crime has on businesses, employees and customers, and are committed to reducing offending and supporting those affected.

We will continue to target prolific and repeat offenders responsible for committing retail crime, using intelligence-led policing, high-visibility patrols and targeted operations in identified hotspot locations. By focusing our activity on those causing the greatest harm, we aim to prevent repeat offending and improve safety within local shopping areas.

Where appropriate, we will seek Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) and utilise other available powers to disrupt persistent offenders and protect businesses from further harm. We will also continue to work with retailers to improve crime prevention measures and encourage the reporting of all offences to help us build the strongest possible evidence against offenders.

Updates on enforcement activity, arrests, charges and successful court outcomes will be shared through Bee in the Loop and our social media channels to keep residents and businesses informed of the action being taken.

Through partnership working, proactive enforcement and ongoing engagement with local businesses, our priority is to reduce retail crime, bring offenders to justice and ensure Worsley Mesnes remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work and shop.

Off-Road Bikes and Operation Handbrake - Worsley Mesnes

Tackling the illegal and anti-social use of off-road bikes remains a key priority within Worsley Mesnes. We understand the significant impact that nuisance motorcycles, quad bikes and other off-road vehicles can have on residents, causing noise, intimidation, damage to green spaces, and risks to public safety.

Through Operation Handbrake, Greater Manchester Police's dedicated response to vehicle-related criminality and anti-social behaviour, we are taking proactive action to identify offenders, disrupt illegal activity and remove vehicles that are being used unlawfully. This includes targeted patrols in hotspot locations, intelligence-led operations and the use of specialist policing resources where appropriate.

Our Neighbourhood Policing Team works closely with local residents, housing providers, Wigan Council and partner agencies to gather information, identify those responsible and develop long-term solutions to recurring issues. Information received from the public plays a vital role in helping us target enforcement activity and achieve positive outcomes.

Where offences are identified, we will use all available powers, including vehicle seizures, prosecutions and anti-social behaviour legislation, to hold offenders accountable and prevent repeat offending. We are particularly focused on those individuals whose behaviour causes the greatest harm to the community.

Alongside enforcement activity, we will continue to engage with local communities to raise awareness of the dangers associated with the illegal use of off-road bikes and encourage the reporting of incidents through the appropriate channels.

Through Operation Handbrake, targeted enforcement and partnership working, our priority is to reduce anti-social behaviour, improve community safety and protect public spaces across Worsley Mesnes. We remain committed to ensuring residents can enjoy their neighbourhood free from the disruption and dangers caused by the illegal use of off-road vehicles.
