Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has continued its upward trend of solving cases involving the abuse of children online in 2023. From 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023, GMP solved 82 more crimes than in the same period from the previous year, meaning more offenders arrested and brought to justice.

Today (Tuesday 25 March 2025), some residents were given an unexpected early morning wakeup call as officers from GMP City of Manchester’s Operation Challenger Unit, with assistance from our Tactical Aid Unit (TAU), carried out 10 simultaneous warrants at addresses across the Longsight, Ardwick and Northmoor areas of Manchester.

Two men who converted blank-firing pistols into lethal guns and sold them on have been jailed for a combined total of 20 years following an investigation by detectives cracking down on illegally converted guns which are then passed on to criminals across the region.

An indefinite Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO) was also granted to safeguard one of the victims.
