I’m Gareth Edwards, Inspector, covering the areas of Prestwich, Whitefield, Radcliffe, Unsworth areas in Bury
I have worked in GMP for over 23 years covering a variety of roles including Response, Specialist Operations, Custody and now Neighbourhoods.
I have a dedicated team of Sgts, Constables and PCSO’s who are committed to their areas and work alongside the community to achieve results.
We aim to keep in touch through our social media pages, neighbourhood watch meetings and other regular surgeries in the local area.
You can contact any of your neighbourhood staff directly and we aim to respond as soon as we can to any issues.
I cover a diverse area, however the common themes of crime and anti-social behaviour remain our core business in each ward area.
However we can help, do not hesitate to contact us.

You Said, We Did:
As a result of complaints of poor driving and dangerous parking the Prestwich Team have been enforcing obstruction legislation, particularly around Sedgley Park Road in the Sedgley area. Operation Halt has been put in place regarding repeat complaints of speeding and other road related concerns. The Prestwich Team continue to conduct monthly operations to target anti-social driving and the linked offences. Heywood Road in Holyrood continues to be a focus with speeding drivers targeted by our operation. We have successfully taken vehicles off the streets for no insurance and off-road bikes in in the Sedgley area following repeated complaints at PACT meetings. .
Your Prestwich Neighbourhood Team have conducted several warrants over the last couple of months in relation to drug dealing and the associated criminality. Several investigations are continuing, and we will continue to act on information reported to us to disrupt and prosecute this activity in our area.
We will continue to target those we suspect are involved in organised crime and drug related activity across Greater Manchester, specifically here on the Bury District.
Your Prestwich Team are also involved in regular patrols to reassure our communities.
Further Initiatives have included:
-Operation Sceptre School Visits and knife crime talks.
-High Visibility Policing of community events in Prestwich over a busy Summer.
-Targeted Activity Around Drugs/Warrants.
-Successful charges brought against numerous repeat shoplifters.
-Drug and Vehicle Seizures.
-Weapons seizures, including unregistered firearms and knives.
-Off-Road Bikes.
