My name is Matthew Harvey, and I have the privilege of serving as the Neighbourhood Inspector responsible for Altrincham, Sale, Hale, Hale Barns, Bowdon and Timperley.
Since joining Greater Manchester Police in 2008, I have dedicated my career to protecting the public and serving communities across a variety of policing roles. At the heart of my service has always been frontline policing; working alongside residents, responding to the issues that matter most, and striving to make our communities safer places to live, work and visit. Building strong relationships with the public remains central to everything I do, and it continues to be the driving force behind my approach to policing.
My current priorities include tackling burglary, anti-social behaviour, Shoplifting, drug-related crime and knife crime. These are issues that have a significant impact on individuals, families and neighbourhoods, and my officers and staff remain committed to addressing them proactively. Through targeted enforcement, problem-solving initiatives and partnership working, we are determined to prevent crime, protect vulnerable people and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
Community engagement is a fundamental part of neighbourhood policing. I regularly attend local meetings, engagement events and partnership forums to better understand the concerns of residents and ensure that policing activity reflects the needs of our communities. Effective communication is essential, which is why I also provide regular updates through the Trafford Police Facebook page and Bee in the Loop, our community messaging platform that enables us to share information, crime prevention advice and important local updates directly with residents. I would encourage everyone to sign up at www.beeintheloop.co.uk to stay informed and help shape local policing priorities.
I firmly believe that policing is most effective when it is carried out in partnership with the community. It is not something we do to a community, but something we do with a community. My door is always open, as are the doors of the officers and staff who serve across Trafford South. We value your feedback, your experiences and your ideas, and we are committed to listening and responding to the issues that matter most to you.
Together, by working in partnership, we can continue to make Trafford a safer place and ensure that our communities remain places where people can live, work and visit with confidence and pride.
I have served with Greater Manchester Police for over 23 years and currently manage a neighbourhood policing teams across South Trafford. Throughout my career, the most rewarding part of policing has always been working with communities, building relationships and helping people feel safe where they live, work and visit.
As a Neighbourhood Sergeant, I work closely with residents, businesses, schools and partner organisations to address the issues that matter most to local people. My role involves overseeing efforts to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, protect vulnerable members of our community and find long-term solutions to recurring problems.
I am a strong believer in visible, community-focused policing. Whether attending local meetings, supporting community events or working with partners to improve neighbourhoods, I am passionate about listening to residents and ensuring their concerns help shape our priorities.
Over the years, I have seen first-hand the difference that strong partnerships and engaged communities can make. I encourage residents to speak with their neighbourhood team, attend local meetings and share their concerns so that together we can continue to make South Trafford a safe, welcoming and thriving place for everyone.

Although there has been a reduction in burglary over the last 12 months it still remains a priority for us.
Working with Trafford Council we have expanded the number of CCTV in the area which enhances our disruption and detection capabilities
