Paul O'Donnell
Inspector

Hi, I'm Sanaz, the Neighbourhood Sergeant for Atherleigh and Westleigh.
I am passionate about neighborhood policing and making a positive difference in the communities we serve. Working alongside a dedicated team of neighborhood officers, I focus on understanding local concerns, building strong relationships with residents and partners, and helping to tackle the issues that matter most to our communities.
I believe that effective policing starts with listening. Whether it's addressing anti-social behavior, tackling crime, supporting vulnerable people, or working with local organizations, I am committed to ensuring that our communities feel safe, supported and heard.
One of the things I enjoy most about my role is meeting local people, attending community events and working together to find long-term solutions to local issues. I am proud to be part of a team that is visible, approachable and committed to making Atherleigh and Westleigh great places to live, work and visit.
My aim is to ensure that residents know who their neighborhood officers are, feel confident speaking to us, and know that we are here to help whenever they need us.

I am PC Gamble, your Neighbourhood Beat Officer for Westleigh and Atherleigh.

I began my policing career in 2020 as a Police Community Support Officer with Merseyside Police before joining Greater Manchester Police in 2022. Since joining GMP, I have gained experience across the Prisoner Processing Unit, District Investigations Team and Response Policing.

These varied roles have given me valuable experience in dealing with a wide range of incidents, investigating crime and understanding the challenges faced by individuals and communities. I’m passionate about using this experience to make a positive difference locally, build strong relationships with residents and partner agencies, and work together to address local concerns.

I have been a police officer with Greater Manchester Police for more than five years and currently serve as the Neighbourhood Officer for Atherleigh and West Leigh. I work closely with residents, local businesses and partner agencies to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and community safety concerns.

My current focus is on addressing local priorities, supporting vulnerable members of the community and developing long-term solutions to recurring issues through partnership working and problem solving.

By working together, we can identify local concerns and help make Atherleigh and West Leigh a safer and stronger community for everyone.

I have served with Greater Manchester Police for 6+ years. I have worked on Response Policing for all of my careers and I currently work as the neighbourhood officer for Westleigh & Atherleigh. My role is to work closely with residents, businesses and partner agencies to address local concerns and improve community safety.

My current focus includes, keeping the roads of Leigh safe by taking part in spontaneous traffic stops and dedicated road traffic operations, targeting areas which blight the community with substance misuse and prolific shoplifters all whilst supporting long-term problem solving within the community. I regularly attend neighbourhood engagement events such as the PACT meetings and work with local partners to tackle the issues that matter most to residents.

I will always encourage members of the community to attend local meetings, sign up to Bee in the Loop and share their concerns so that together we can help make our neighbourhood a safer place to live, work and visit.

I have worked for GMP since 2015 in various different roles and in 2020 I decided to pursue a career as a police officer.  I began my service as a response officer, where I gained valuable experience in frontline policing.  I am now based within the West Leigh and Atherleigh neighbourhood team.  Prior to joining GMP I worked as a carer supporting vulnerable adults.  This experience helped develop my passion for safeguarding and supporting those in need.  I remain committed to protecting vulnerable individuals, promoting community safety and ensuring that everyone in the community feels safe and supported.

My name is Debbie Robinson, and I am a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) based in Leigh. I have proudly served in this role for the past 19 years. During my first five years as a PCSO, I was based in Chadderton, and for the last 14 years I have worked in the Westleigh area, where I have built strong relationships with local residents, businesses, schools and partner agencies.
A key part of my role is patrolling the community, engaging with residents, gathering intelligence, and helping to identify and address local concerns. I regularly visit schools, businesses and vulnerable members of the community, offering advice on crime prevention, personal safety and ways to stay safe. I enjoy supporting people, listening to their concerns and helping them access the right support when needed.
Throughout my career, I have developed excellent working relationships with partner agencies, housing providers, local councillors and community groups. By working together and meeting regularly, we can identify problems early and find effective solutions to issues affecting our neighbourhoods, helping to make our communities safer places to live and work.
One of the aspects of the role I enjoy most is talking to people. I believe that a simple conversation can break down barriers, build trust and strengthen relationships between the police and the community. By being visible, approachable and accessible, I hope to encourage people to share information, report concerns and feel confident that they have someone who will listen and help.
After 19 years of serving the public, I remain passionate about community policing and making a positive difference in the lives of the people I meet every day. My goal is to continue working alongside the community to tackle local issues, support those who are vulnerable and help create a safer environment for everyone.

Priorities

Our priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Drug Dealing Activity
We are aware of ongoing concerns regarding drug‑dealing activity in the West Leigh and Atherleigh areas.
Neighbourhood officers have increased high‑visibility patrols to provide reassurance to the community and to deter criminal activity. In addition, officers are carrying out enhanced stop and search activity, based on intelligence and information received from the public.
This targeted approach has resulted in positive outcomes, and we will continue to use all available powers and resources to disrupt drug‑related activity, identify those involved, and keep our neighbourhoods safe.
We encourage residents to continue reporting any suspicious behaviour, as community intelligence plays a vital role in shaping our ongoing policing activity.

  • Priority:

    Retail Crime
We investigate all reports of retail crime where viable lines of enquiry exist. Our Neighbourhood Policing Team takes a proactive and targeted approach, focusing on repeat offenders and regularly affected locations to ensure a consistent and effective response.
Where appropriate, we seek Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) through the courts against persistent offenders. Updates on enforcement outcomes are shared via our social media channels and Bee in the Loop to keep the community informed.
Currently, we have identified seven repeat perpetrators responsible for multiple incidents of retail crime across the Atherleigh and West Leigh areas. Through successful prosecutions, CBOs have been secured against all eight individuals, including four orders obtained since the start of this year.
We remain committed to supporting local businesses, disrupting ongoing offending, and using all available powers to reduce retail crime in our communities.

  • Priority:

    Off‑Road Bikes
Neighbourhood officers are carrying out high‑visibility patrols across the area to reduce vehicle noise and antisocial behaviour (ASB).
Operation Hurricane is being conducted on an ongoing basis across West Leigh and the Atherleigh area, with particular focus on Bikershaw Country Park and other locations where reports have been received.
As a result of this activity, a number of off‑road bikes have been seized. We will continue to use our resources to deter this behaviour and take enforcement action to prevent it happening across our beat.

    Issued 13 August 2026

    Action taken:

    No update available

  • Priority:

Our key priorities are to make you feel safe within the areas you live by focussing on the following four themes; reducing Burglary, tackling Anti-Social Behaviour, dealing robustly with drug use and supply, and to promote and enforce safety on our roads.

These priorities will be updated with more specific detail following our Partners and Communities Together Meetings (PACT).
