Retail Crime - Pemberton
Tackling retail crime remains a key priority across the Pemberton area. We are committed to investigating reports of shop theft and related offences where viable lines of enquiry exist and will take positive action against those responsible.
Our Neighbourhood Policing Team works closely with retailers, security staff, partner agencies and the wider community to identify offenders, gather evidence and target those who repeatedly commit offences against local businesses. We recognise the impact that retail crime has on businesses, staff and customers, and are focused on preventing repeat victimisation and improving confidence within our retail centres.
A particular emphasis is placed on identifying prolific offenders and addressing emerging crime trends affecting retail premises across Pemberton. Through targeted patrols, intelligence-led operations and joint working with local businesses, we aim to deter offending and provide a visible policing presence in areas most affected.
Where appropriate, we will seek Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) and utilise other available powers to manage and disrupt persistent offenders. We will continue to pursue prosecutions where evidence permits and share the outcomes of our enforcement activity through Bee in the Loop and social media channels to keep businesses and residents informed.
By working in partnership with retailers and the local community, we are committed to reducing shop theft, protecting local businesses, and ensuring Pemberton remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work and shop. Our priority is to prevent offending, bring offenders to justice, and support those affected by retail crime.

Drug Use and Neighbourhood Issues - Pemberton
Addressing drug-related activity and resolving neighbourhood issues remains a key priority across the Pemberton area. We understand the significant impact that drug misuse, associated criminality, and ongoing neighbour disputes can have on the quality of life of residents and the wider community.
Our Neighbourhood Policing Team is committed to working alongside residents, housing providers, local authorities, and partner agencies to identify and tackle locations linked to drug use, drug dealing, anti-social behaviour, and persistent nuisance. Information provided by the community plays a vital role in helping us target those responsible and take appropriate action.
We will continue to conduct intelligence-led patrols, utilise enforcement powers where appropriate, and pursue individuals involved in illegal drug activity. Where evidence exists, we will work with partners to secure interventions, closure orders, tenancy enforcement, and criminal prosecutions to protect local communities from harm.

Off-Road Bikes and Operation Handbrake - Pemberton
Tackling the illegal and anti-social use of off-road bikes remains a key priority across the Pemberton area. We understand the significant impact that nuisance motorcycles, quad bikes and off-road vehicles can have on local communities, causing distress to residents, damage to public spaces, and posing a risk to the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
Through Operation Handbrake, Greater Manchester Police's response to vehicle-related crime and anti-social behaviour, we are taking proactive steps to identify offenders, disrupt illegal activity and remove vehicles being used unlawfully. This includes targeted patrols, intelligence-led operations and the deployment of specialist policing resources in areas identified through community concerns and incident reporting.
Our Neighbourhood Policing Team works closely with local residents, Wigan Council, housing providers and partner agencies to gather information, identify those responsible and tackle recurring issues. Community intelligence remains essential in helping us target offenders and direct enforcement activity where it is most needed.
Where offences are identified, we will utilise all available powers, including vehicle seizures under relevant legislation, anti-social behaviour measures and prosecutions where appropriate. Particular focus is placed on repeat offenders and those whose actions cause the greatest harm to the community.
Alongside enforcement, we will continue to engage with local residents, schools and community groups to raise awareness of the dangers associated with the illegal use of off-road bikes and encourage the reporting of incidents.
Through Operation Handbrake, targeted enforcement and partnership working, our priority is to reduce anti-social behaviour, protect parks, footpaths and public spaces, and improve the quality of life for residents across Pemberton. We remain committed to ensuring the community can enjoy their neighbourhood free from the disruption, damage and danger caused by the illegal use of off-road vehicles.
