Welcome to your Salford West Neighbourhood pages.
I am Inspector Steve Corless and I cover Little Hulton, Walkden, Worsley, Ellenbrook, Boothstown, Winton, Eccles, Barton, Monton, Peel Green, Irlam and cadishead areas of Salford.
I joined Greater Manchester Police in December 2022, but I started in Merseyside Police in 2001. I have worked in a variety of uniform roles as a constable, these being Neighbourhood, Response, Armed response, Matrix Disruption before I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and posted to Custody. During my time there I achieved the rank of Inspector then decided on a move closer to home. I was brought up in the Little Hulton and Walkden area, so I fully understand the diverse layout within the community. I covered response for the first 6 months in GMP in the Salford district before being posted to Neighbourhood Inspector.
I have always enjoyed front line policing, problem solving and partnership work. Neighbourhood policing is something I truly believe can have a positive impact on communities and working with partners and yourselves we can target and deal with those individuals who negatively impact your quality of lives.
I understand the issues in our areas are burglary, anti-social behaviour drug dealing and knife crime and my officers and staff are working day and night to ensure that we prevent these types of offences On these pages you will find priorities in our area that we continue to work on. We will update these priorities with the action we have taken to remedy them.

GMP have launched an alert system called Bee in the loop which will enable us to contact you directly about these priorities. It will also enable you to speak to officers on the ground, where you live, so you can tell us what matters most to you.
You can sign up at www.beeintheloop.co.uk
If this isn’t for you, you can also see our scheduled meetings. You will get to speak to an officer directly.

Priorities

Our priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Anti social behaviour

    Issued 09 June 2026

    Action taken:

    ASB

Our neighbourhood priority is to tackle anti-social behaviour linked to electric bikes, particularly dangerous riding, noise nuisance, and intimidation of residents. We will work with partners to identify hotspots, carry out targeted patrols, and engage with offenders to prevent escalation. Enforcement will be coupled with education to raise awareness of legal requirements and safe riding. We will use intelligence-led approaches, including community reporting and CCTV where appropriate, to disrupt persistent offenders. Our aim is to improve safety, reduce harm, and reassure the community by taking a firm but fair approach to those misusing electric bikes in our area

  • Priority:

    Fraud

    Issued 09 June 2026

    Action taken:

    FRAUD

Our neighbourhood priority is to tackle fraud linked to retail crime, including refund fraud, counterfeit goods, and organised theft impacting local businesses. We will work closely with retailers, security teams, and partner agencies to share intelligence, identify repeat offenders, and disrupt criminal networks. Targeted patrols and proactive operations will be supported by evidence gathering, CCTV, and reporting systems. We will also promote prevention by encouraging good retail practices and staff awareness. Our focus is to protect businesses, reduce financial loss, and build confidence within the retail community through a consistent, intelligence-led enforcement approach.
