You Said, We Did:
Operation Halt has been put in place regarding repeat complaints of speeding and other road related concerns.
Over the past few months, the Town Centre and Outer Beat Team have been tackling ASB and crime in the East Bury area, utilising a number of tactics, including high-visibility and plainclothes patrols.
To tackle ASB, joint work has been conducted with the Council's Anti-Social Behaviour team regarding several known youths causing issues for local businesses in the area. The youths were identified and several arrests were made whilst others have successfully been dealt with by the council ASB team. However, as is the nature of Town Centre policing, new groups will replace the old ones and we need to keep on top of this over the summer.
The officers regularly conduct stop searches when appropriate, which has led to drugs being seized and criminal action taken against the offenders. The team also gather intelligence to obtain warrants to target the suppliers.
A number of prolific shoplifters have been arrested and received prison sentences. One has been banned from entering the area for the next two years to protect the local businesses.
Officers on overtime are also directed to patrol the hotspots in the Town Centre at peak times and they too have had positive results such as recovering weapons, seizing E-scooters and making a number of arrests for various offences.
Officers have also attended a number of events and community venues in the area such as the Gallipoli Parade, Bury Pride, school visits, Mosque visits and Bury Comic Con.
Upcoming over the next three months is Safe4Summer which is a Home Office drive to reduce ASB in Town Centre and hotspot areas. You will see an increased police presence in the area and we will conduct joint work with other agencies to keep the people of Bury safe.
I would ask that if you have any information or concerns to report these in the usual way via the GMP website or anonymously via CrimeStoppers on the telephone number 0800 555 111.
For any more general issues or if you wish to be placed in touch with your local Police Officer or PCSO please email [email protected] or call 0161 856 8204 (office hours). Thanks.
